Replacing an end-of-life system with fixed-price software development, with a team of 15 at its peak

A white-gloved hand places gold necklaces and a gem-set wristwatch on a green velvet tray on a glass counter, in a bright, wood-panelled customer area.

Background of the cooperation

The system serving BÁV's pawn-lending business had reached the end of its life cycle. The client wanted a new system built on modern technology – and selected the developer in a closed, invitation-only tender. BlackBelt's offer promised the most for the least money; the project started as fixed-price software development.

The team

At the peak of the project 15 people worked on it, all at senior level: 4–5 Java backend developers, 4–5 Angular frontend developers, 3 designers and 2–3 business analysts. By the end of development the team narrowed to 4 people.

Result

Development ran from February 2018 to January 2019, longer than planned. The new system went live on 1 January 2022, and its development has been continuous ever since.
